Rupert the Chocolate Angel
Return to David Solomons' Music Site

Welcome to Rupert’s English page!

This is a parody song for Christmas, by way of an antidote to that “Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer” song which has dominated so may Christmas concerts and shopping malls.

I have used my own melody (reminiscent of the red-nosed tune but actually quite different, for copyright reasons) and I have provided versions here in English (video, mp3, pdf and midi), and also in French and German (pdf and midi).

Speakers of other languages are welcome to submit versions in their own tongue - please email me with your version (together with a literal translation into English please) and I’ll add it to this site.

Your versions can be “words only” but if they come with music notation too (as pdf) so much the better!

Original version - in English

Well there's mince pies and sherry and pudding and whisky

candies and chocolates and to make us all frisky

but do you know the most famous sweet of all?

Rupert the chocolate angel

Waited by the fire one day

'cos he was told that Santa

would be coming on his sleigh

all of the other chocolates

told him that he was a fool

they were afraid of melting

so they kept in shade and cool

but that night old Santa came along

at Rupert's request

and he gulped the sherry down

doffed his boots and had a rest

then he looked round at Rupert

melted now and quite deceased

gave out a little giggle

and had a little chocolate feast
