NOTE: In the above table the position of individual flautists are assumed to be correct but the list of players is probably incomplete. The 1st Flute players may not have played at every performance. It is possible that those noted as second flute may have been assistant principals and others would have taken up the position of second and piccolo. Unfortunately the Royal Opera Archive does not hold any information on orchestral personnel between 1847 and 1892.
