Clinton Flutes

Clinton Flute by Potter, 1851 Exhibition.
Clinton’s flutes had a key system adapted from the Boehm
flute but at the same time, they maintained a close relationship to the old
eight-key flutes.
His
1848 model was manufactured by Henry Potter and produced in wood.

In
1862 Clinton
brought out a flute model with cylindrical bore and equally graduated tone
holes which diminished in size towards the head. The instrument won a gold
medal award at the London Exhibition but Clinton
continued to modify the design bringing out his “Equisonant”
model the following year.
