Ukrainian Choral Music
Two movements from the Divine Liturgy by Vasylaki-Vozhakivskyj
Velika Yekteniya No 1
Milist' Spokoju No 3
After a beautiful recital given by a Ukrainian choir in Oldham (in North-West England) last month I made inquiries and was pleased to receive a copy of this work today. It was written by the Ukrainian composer Simon Petrovych Vasylaki-Vozhakivskyj, who lived from 1911 to 1984. My Ukrainian pronunciation will probably need a little correcting I suspect, but, anyway, these are my first attempts at performing this glorious music in my one-man choir. I hope you will enjoy it.
The Velika Yekteniya No 1 (Lord have mercy) has been transposed down for my voice to avoid the top G-s in the soprano part, but the Milist' Spokoju is sung at the original pitch.
