The fallow deer at the lonely house
Poem by Thomas Hardy,
music composed and performed
by David W Solomons
One without looks in tonight
Through the curtain chink
From the sheet of glistening white
As we sit and think by the fender brink
We do not discern those eyes
Watching in the snow
Lit by lamps of rosy dyes
This setting is for tenor and alto unaccompanied.
A very gentle setting for a gentle poem.
The pdf of the score and a recording of the first performance is available here
