My Lord Willoughby's Welcome Home for wind, brass and timpani

This is based on a popular song about an English Lord and warrior from Renaissance times on his return from a victorious battle.
John Dowland wrote a lute duet based on the tune, which is perhaps the most well known version.
Several centuries later, I wrote this version for wind, brass and timpani.
The performance is by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra under P├ęter Pejtsek.

O Virgo Virginum for next Advent

At the request of our rector I composed an anthem for Advent. The poem is by Malcolm Guite (Chaplain of Girton College Cambridge) and is based on
the 8th O Antiphon of Advent.

O Virgin of virgins, how shall this be?
For neither before thee was any like thee, nor shall there be after.
Daughters of Jerusalem, why marvel ye at me?
The thing which ye behold is a divine mystery.

This video provides an electronic preview of the music, while we await live performances near the end of 2017.
Some who know my music may well recognise the origin of the melody....
