A Cassandre - Mignonne, allons voir si la rose ...

The poem A Cassandre by Pierre de Ronsard, as translated into English by my father,
has resulted in several versions since the day I set it to music.
I originally set it for voice and guitar:

I then used my melody for a solo bassoon at the request of Franck Leblois, with my Dad reciting the poem

Spem in Alium (40 part motet) for orchestra

Having sung alto in choirs 1, 3 and 6 of the 40 part motet Spem in Alium by Tallis on various occasions in Manchester and Liverpool
and also sung the whole work myself multitracking (see Video)
I decided the time had come to create an orchestral version.
Since the piece is split into 8 choirs, each containing 5 voices, the best solution seemed to be
to assign each choir to an instrumental quintet - wind quintet, 2 string quintets, 2 brass quintets, reed quintet and saxophone and flute quintets)
The score and parts are available at

and the mp3 is also available at
