Sonja Grossner was born in 1942.  She has studied both in Germany and England with Manfred Weis and Gavin Bryars.  

She worked as a freelance musician in the former German Democratic Republic in Dresden before returning to England, and plays primarily the violin, but also viola and piano.  

Having engaged in further study at the Birmingham Conservatoire, she has composed over a hundred pieces of instrumental and chamber music.
