Ronald Frost was born in Bury, Lancashire, and educated at the town's Grammar School and the Royal Manchester College of Music.

He has spent the whole of his professional life in Manchester,
combining the roles of tutor at the RMCM (now the RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music)
with those of recitalist, choral trainer and church organist.

In August 1998 he retired from his full-time tutor post at the RNCM, but he still teaches there on a part-time basis.
