William Barlow (1899-1983) studied flute with W. Thorn
and before 1939 played the winter season at
He
was appointed principal flute of the Scottish Orchestra (1944-1945) and then
played second flute and piccolo in the Hallé Orchestra (1945-1955). On leaving
the Hallé he turned to teaching until he was 80.
