ARLISS MARRIOTT
Born 1890’s
Pupil of Robert Murchie and
principal flute Hallé Orchestra 1943-45.
He was well known in London
before moving north to the Hallé and had been a member of the Old Vic and
Sadler’s Wells Orchestras. Before 1942 he had been principal of the Scottish
Orchestra. During the 1930’s he was
flute professor at Rodean
School. At this time he
took part in many chamber concerts and founded the English Wind Players’
Quintet performing mainly in the south of England.
After 1945 Marriott took up
residence in Brighton spending his time
teaching and playing freelance.
