Kevin was born in Bootle and began learning to play the piano at the age of six.
He went on to study piano, harmony and counterpoint with Ronald Settle in Liverpool.
After winning an entrance scholarship to study composition at the Birmingham Conservatoire,
Kevin had a series of influential meetings with Anthony Gilbert at the Royal Northern College of Music.
In 1996 he attended a music theatre course with Harrison Birtwistle,
and in 1997 won a bursary to attend the Dartington International Summer School.
1998 saw the première of his music theatre piece "Requiem"
at the ISCM World Music Days Festival in Manchester.
His output includes a collection of piano miniatures, a piano sonata, vocal works
for mixed ensembles, a string trio, a quartet for percussion and a mono-drama for
solo contralto voice.
